Winter Solstice Yin Yoga + Sound Bath Offering

  • Nectar Yoga 720 Gardner Lane Bowen Island, BC, V0N 1G2 Canada (map)

We are pleased to host this sacred, in-person offering in our yoga-dome led by Nectar Yoga Retreat creatrix, Andrea Clark on the evening of December 21, 2022, where we will (re)kindle the inner soul flame as we honour the dark and move back into the light.

Event Overview

We are transitioning towards Winter, the coldest season that has the shortest daylight hours, before the days begin to emerge back warmth and to the light returning.

During our time together, we will kindle the inner soul flame as we honour the dark and move back into the light. Using our voices, our bodies, our breath, and our collective + individual intentions, be invited to carve a clear path forward toward the illumination of Spring.

The inherent shifts that are happening all around us are becoming more visible each day, and if we become more attuned, we can also hear an echoing of the seasonal rhythms occurring within us. As we approach the Winter, it’s this season when the veil between our realm and the spiritual realm is thinnest and connection to the unseen is most tangible. And it is on the Solstice, this notable time of the year when we can consciously turn towards the light, engaging in graceful practices that can help us to embrace Winter in an embodied way.

What’s Included:

  • An introduction and group introduction

  • A seasonally curated 75-minute Yin Yoga practice

  • Seasonal wisdom offered for this Yin session

  • A 30-minute crystal bowl sound bath

  • Closing gratitude circle

About Yin Yoga

In Yin practices, we stretch the connective tissue that is centralized at the joints. Yin yoga practice supports flexibility and opening in areas that are often perceived as non-malleable; particularly the hips, pelvis and lower spine. It also allows an opportunity to exercise deep breathwork practices that stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system (associated with rest and digest functions). When you gently stretch connective tissues by holding a supported pose for a long time, the body will respond by making them both stronger and more limber. This helps maintain a healthy range of motion, healthy mobility and comfort in the body, nurturing the whole– physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

About Sound Baths

Just as a typical bath involves a person immersing themselves in the medium of water, a sound bath attempts to envelop a person in the medium of sound. In most cases, the bath involves singing bowls, which are instruments made out of metal or crystal that create a resonant tone (much like a bell) when a practitioner strikes them.

Sound baths convey an immersive sound that fills the entire room and the bodies within the space, transmitting sound waves throughout the entire body, including memories and sensations stored in the cells. The resonance activates both theta, alpha, and gamma brain waves, states that are associated with relaxation, the letting go of mental and physical stress, and emotions relating to wellbeing and compassion.
