Welcome To Our Winter Yoga Teacher Training Program

We Look Forward To Welcoming You!

During this immersion program, we will dive into all aspects of the yoga practice, including the history, philosophy and ethics relating to sharing the practice.

The sacred start of our training together this winter will be hosted in conjunction with elders Vern Shanoss + Sylvia Shanoss/Mumsi from the Sachteen Nation. This opening ceremony will include: Drum circle, pipe ceremony, story time, honouring Mother Earth and the First People of the land.

Each week will include various ceremonies with elders, and excursions into the forests and wilderness of Bowen Island. You will learn to share traditional as well as contemporary Mantras + Kirtans. As part of the Anatomy portion of training, a Sweat Lodge will be facilitated by the Lilloette Nation.

This training will include overviews of :

  • Anatomy | major muscles + bones relating to yoga postures, types of joints + contractions, modifications to offer for pregnancy and injuries

  • Asana | historical context, Sanskrit terms for poses, anatomical + alignment principles, sequencing,

  • Biomechanics | types of movement in the joints + stabilization, safe movement practices, physical alignment

  • Ethics | comprehension of and assumed responsibility of equity in the yoga practice, Yoga Sutras, accountability measures, self-reflections

  • History | the cultures, lineage and ‘styles’ of yoga, dates + key ideas, the Vedas and other historical texts

  • Meditation | methods by lineage, Kirtan, Mudras, Mantras

  • Practicum | practice teaching postures + sequences with peers and teachers, feedback, mentorship

  • Pranayama + The Subtle Body | sequencing + safe practices, plant medicine, Ujjayi, Nadi Shodhana, Kapalabhati, the Chakras, Kriyas, effects of breathwork on the mind + body, historical context

  • Philosophy | relationship between Pranayama + Asana, definition of yoga and key terms, familiarity with common texts [Yoga Sutras, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita]

  • Physiology | parasympathetic + sympathetic nervous system, mind + body connections, digestive system, circulatory system, respiratory system and cardiovascular system relating to yoga

  • Professional Development | ethical commitments, lifetime of learning and continued education avenues, general professionalism, liability, marketing + promoting your classes

  • Teaching Methodology | pacing, cues, sequencing, environment, class management
